The first-ever Textile Policy under Textile Ministry formed last year would be announced next month. The policy would give incentives to the industrialists in textile sector so that they can face the challenges of World Trade Organisation (WTO) regime.
An official in Textile Ministry told APP that textile policy was to be announced in June but was delayed as Textile Minister Mushtaq Ali Cheema wanted to make it more comprehensive and helpful in boosting local textile sector.
The policy has suggested many steps to strengthen textile industry, meet WTO challenges and compete with India, China and Bangladesh etc.
To maintain cotton quality the policy also recommends legislation that every ginning industry must have a cotton inspector. These cotton inspectors would be trained at Pakistan Cotton Standard Institutes (PCSI) at Karachi and Faisalabad. More similar institutes are also planned.
Suggestions and recommendations made by All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (Aptma), Pakistan Cotton Growers Association (PCGA), Pakistan Ready-made Garments Association, Ministry of Food and Agriculture, Ministry of Industries and Ministry of Commerce have been give serious consideration in the forthcoming textile policy.
It may be mentioned here that Textile Ministry was formed last year to maximise country's textile exports and resolve problems of textile sector.
