India on Tuesday successfully test-fired a short-range, surface-to-air missile from a remote range in eastern Orissa state, Defence Ministry sources said. The Trishul, or trident, missile was fired at 11:58 am from the testing site at Chandipur 200km north-east of the state capital Bhubaneswar, the sources said.
Powered by a two-stage solid propellant system and fitted with a 5.5kg fragmented warhead, the missile achieved a target range of 9km, the sources said. The range can be enhanced with the completion of its other trials, the sources said.
