A flight from Los Angeles to London was diverted to Boston after three Pakistani businessmen acted suspiciously, but the flight was later allowed to continue after nothing unusual was found, officials said on Tuesday.
United Airlines flight 934, bound for London's Heathrow Airport, landed at Boston's Logan International Airport early on Tuesday morning after the crew reported that three Pakistani men prompted concern by moving around the cabin.
"Their movement around the cabin caused someone to make the decision to divert the plane," said Gail Marcinkiewicz, spokeswoman for FBI in Boston.
She declined to give details about what the men were doing to raise suspicions, saying only that they were "Pakistani citizens in the United States on business".
After FBI questioning, the three were cleared to continue their flight, and United Airlines, the No 2 US carrier and a unit of UAL Corp, said that the plane later left for London. "It has been resolved," Marcinkiewicz said.
It was the latest incident in which US officials, taking special precautions since the September 11, 2001 attacks and subsequent terrorism attacks around the world diverted a plane or forced it to return to a foreign airport after suspicions were raised about passengers.
