Senior officers from Pakistan and China will meet here on Tuesday to hold consultation on matters relating to arms control disarmament and nuclear non-proliferation. The two countries have set up a 'Consultation mechanism' to co-ordinate each other position on important security issues.
The two sides will avail the opportunity to discuss various new initiatives taken at regional and international levels for arms control.
Diplomatic sources told APP that the two countries enjoy close co-operation and share identical views on wide-ranging issues of nuclear non-proliferation. China always appreciated Pakistan's efforts and support for peaceful use of nuclear energy.
"Such type of consultation helps to coordinate the position with regard to the matters that regularly come under discussion at the conferences of Disarmament in Geneva, International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Vienna, and the United Nations in New York," the sources added.
Pakistan's side would be led at the talks by Disarmament Director General Nazir Hussain, while the Chinese side will be represented by Foreign Ministry Senior Official Zhang Yan.
The Pakistan's delegation, during its stay in Beijing, is also scheduled to hold meetings with the members of Chinese think-tank, including Chinese Peoples' Association of Peace and Disarmament, China's Arms Control and Disarmament Association, and China's Institute of Strategic Studies.
Sources said that Pakistan and China, being traditional strategic partner, also strengthened consultation mechanism in the recent years to promote co-operation in the non-traditional security fields and work together for peace and development at all levels.
