The Collectorate of Customs, Sales Tax and Central Excise, Hyderabad comprising the entire province, excluding erstwhile Karachi civil division, has collected Rs 14.690 billion substantially surpassing the combined revenue target of Rs 14.529 billion. The Collectorate was assigned a combined revenue target of Rs14.529 billion for the financial year 2004-05.
The Collectorate surpassed the target collecting Rs 14.690 billion on account of Customs duty, Sales Tax & Central Excise duty. Besides, a huge amount of Rs 2955.84 million has been collected on account of Sales Tax on imported goods.
The revenue target was surpassed despite the fact that there was no expansion in the industrial base in the jurisdiction of this collectorate and one of the major items of revenue ie sugar, suffered production loss.
As per official figures, issued by the Agriculture Department Sindh, the production of sugarcane remained 27 percent lower than the last season.
The press release said: "The achievement clearly indicates that the liberal policies of the present government, positive attitude of the taxpayers and sincere efforts of the officers and staff of Hyderabad Customs Collectorate made this daunting task not only possible but exceeded it with a big margin."
The classification of the collection remained as; Customs duty-Rs2.587 billion, Sales Tax (domestic)-Rs 4.423 billion, Central Excise Duty-RS 7.680 billion and Sales Tax on Imports contributed Rs 2.955 billion.-PR
