The collectorate of customs, sales tax & central excise, Hyderabad, has surpassed the revenue target by collecting Rs 17,646.78 million, for the financial year 2004-2005, registering an increase of Rs 3,116.84 million.
According to Assistant Collector (Hqrs), Mamoon M. Khuhawar, the collectorate of customs, sales tax & central excise, Hyderabad, which comprises entire province of Sindh excluding erstwhile Karachi civil division, was assigned a combined revenue target of Rs 14,529.84 million for the financial year 2004-05. Against this target, the collectorate has successfully not only achieved the assigned target but also surpassed it substantially.
An amount of Rs 14,690 million has been collected on account of custom duty, sales tax & central excise duty. Beside, a huge amount of Rs 2,955.84 million has been collected on account of sales tax on imported goods.
The revenue target has surpassed despite the fact that there was no expansion in the industrial base in the jurisdiction of this collectorate and one of the major items of revenue ie the sugar suffered production loss, he pointed out. As per official figures issued by the agriculture department, government of Sindh, the production of sugarcane remained 27 percent lower as compared to the last season.
The surpassing of the target is a clear indication of the fact that the liberal policies of present government, positive attitude of the taxpayers and sincere efforts of the officers and staff of Hyderabad customs collectorate made this daunting task not only possible but exceeded it with a big margin, he stated.
According to the break up tax-wise revenue collection remained as under: customs duty Rs 2,587 million, sales tax (domestic) Rs 4,423 million, central excise duty Rs 7,680 million and sales tax on imports Rs 2,955 million.
