Ryan C Crocker, the US ambassador to Pakistan, has reaffirmed his country's support for the social uplift, economic development and public welfare schemes initiated in Pakistan.
Addressing the inaugural ceremony of Thalaessemia Care Centre, constructed with the help of US AID in collaboration with the National Rural Support Programme in Badin, on Monday morning he also reassured his co-operation and support towards the initiative.
He expressed his satisfaction that a reputable non-governmental organisation Hussaini Hematology and Oncology Trust has not only provided technical support, supervision for construction but also taken upon itself the responsibility of running the centre with provision for all updated facilities.
The US ambassador was immensely pleased to note that with the facility in a remote part of Sindh province a large number of patients from Badin as well as surrounding towns and villages could be referred to the Thalaessemia Care Centre without any unnecessary delay to a centre where full-fledged treatment for disease would be available.
Altaf Nazim, Managing Trustee of Hussaini Blood Bank, speaking on the occasion, said that with the set-up of the Badin Thalaessemia Care Centre, patients of this disease living in or near the vicinity of Badin will be able to get state-of-the-art treatment in Badin for which they normally had to come to Karachi.
Maintaining that it was an honour for the Hussaini Blood Bank to be part of the project, he said Hussaini Blood Bank will continue to provide technical support to the project.
Altaf Nazim also urged the philanthropists and private corporations to donate funds towards the initiative, adding their financial contribution will strengthen his organization's ability to ensure that thalaessemia patients in Badin no longer remain neglected and have access to medical treatment and facilities that they have been deprived for so long.
The inaugural ceremony was largely attended by luminaries from the government and notables of the area besides doctors and members of the Hussaini Hematology and Oncology Trust.
