For the implementation of President General Pervez Musharraf's package for Hyderabad development amounting to Rs 10.5 billion, consultants have been appointed. They will prepare development action plan and supervise the engineering service works of the project. Muhammad Hussein Syed, District Co-ordinating Officer, who is also the project director of the package, said that the consultants would design the project for the defunct Hyderabad district within seven months and would complete the project within 38 months.
He said that the defunct Hyderabad district includes all the three newly created districts - Tando Allahyar, Tando Muhammad Khan and Matiari - all of which are included in the project.
He said that decisions of the outgoing district government of Hyderabad district would be added to the project Under those decisions, Rs 6.5 billion were proposed for undertaking uplift works of sewerage and water supply, Rs 1 billion for communication infrastructure in all three talukas, including Hyderabad City, Latifabad and Qasimabad, while Rs 1 billion was proposed for village electrification, Rs 1 billion for rural gas supply and Rs 1 billion for rural communication network.
Replying a question about the appointment of consultants he said that the purpose of their appointment was to ensure transparency and accuracy in development works and avoid any
Over-lapping to ensure efficient utilisation of funds.
He further said that the Project Steering Committee, headed by the Sindh governor, was competent to decide about the distribution of funds among the newly created districts, in case any more development work is needed in those areas.
