Veteran Pakistan movement worker and Federal Minister Mahmud Ali on Saturday called for adhering to the motto given by the Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah of 'Faith, Unity and Discipline' to overcome the challenges that the Muslims are facing in the contemporary world of today. He was speaking at the Auditorium of the Sindh Red Crescent Building at a meeting to pay tributes to late Allauddin Munshi, a well-known architect.
The theme of the memorial meeting was "How to Meet the Challenges Faced by the Muslims" and it was organised by the Tahreek-e-Takmeel Pakistan, Sindh branch headed by Mahfooz-un-Nabi Khan.
Mahmud Ali drew the attention to the tragic incident at Barri Imam shrine and said that this act was most deplorable and was meant to draw attention away from the Pakistan-wide protest over the desecration the Holy Quran at Guantanamo prison.
He said that the weakness suffered by the Muslims was self-generated because they failed to grasp the full meaning of the motto of the Quaid in which the first word was faith.
He regretfully said that Muslims had succumbed to divisive forces and added that that all such divisive forces have to be defeated and the ideological basis of Pakistan must be made strong and impregnable. "In this alone lay the salvation of the Muslims," Mahmud Ali added.
Well-known lawyer Aziz A Munshi speaking on the occasion said that faith was the most important part of the average Muslim's life and anything that bursts faith causes reaction.
He said strength of the Muslim Ummah alone could help meet all challenges posed.
Well-known international affairs expert and retired diplomat Mehdi Masood maintained that terrorism can not be the solution to the ills faced by the Muslim nations. He said the greatest damage to Islam and to Muslims was caused by the terror attacks of 9/11.
Mahfooz-un-Nabi said that the meeting was to remember Allauddin Munshi and also to highlight how best to meet challenges faced by Muslims today.
Mahmudul Aziz, veteran editor, speaking on the occasion said that Muslim leaders generally stood for unity and tolerance. It was the combined effort of President Pervez Musharraf and Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhojono that the Asian-African Summit was successful when these two Muslim leaders played a role in bringing China and Japan together and obtaining their adherence to the Jakarta Declaration.
