Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Saturday said friendly and brotherly relations between Pakistan and Malaysia were bound to strengthen further. He was talking to Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar, Chairman OIC Commission of Eminent Persons and the foreign Minister of Malaysia, who called on him at the Prime Minister's House. Shaukat Aziz expressed the confidence that the recent high-level contacts between Pakistan and Malaysia would culminate in further consolidation and expansion of diplomatic, political and economic relations between the two brotherly countries.
The Prime Minister said that Pakistan and Malaysia are bound together by centuries-old ties of history, culture and religion. These relations, he added, are bound to go from strength to strength in the days to come.
Referring to his recent visit to Malaysia, Shaukat Aziz said that Pakistan desires early recourse to Free Trade Agreement, as it would help in expansion of trade and economic relations between the two countries.
He also thanked Hamid Albar and the Government of Malaysia for the warm hospitality extended to him during the visit.
The Prime Minister also observed that the two countries share their perceptions on many regional and international issues and they have a common desire to serve the Muslim Ummah.
He said that his visit to Asean countries was motivated by the desire to forge closer ties with these countries and to create linkages and interdependencies.
Reciprocating the sentiments, Hamid Albar appreciated the achievements made by Pakistan in the economic field during the last six years and said that these were truly unique and laudable.
He also said that the recent visit of Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz to Malaysia would not only promote the political and economic relation between the two countries but also foster greater people to people contact.
Hamid Albar hoped that both the countries would be able to revitalise the OIC and make it an effective platform.
