Special teams have been formed to remove technical faults from the telemetry system, installed at various dams and barrages. According to official sources, three teams have been formed comprising technical staff and engineers for the smooth functioning of telemetry system. Sources said out of three, one team would monitor the installation in Punjab; second team based in Islamabad would monitor the system in NWFP while third team placed at Sukkur would be responsible to check the system in Sindh and Balochistan.
Meanwhile talking to APP, Chairman Irsa, Aman Gul Khattak said the Authority had adopted special measures to streamline the telemetry system.
He said Siemens Company had given warranty of system till 2006 and was bound to remove any fault in the system in order to have accurate results.
Khattak said faults mainly developed in the system due to software problem while interruption in power supply also caused blockage at some points.
The probability of technical fault was very low, as most installations were functioning smoothly. He said out of 24 total sites, only few points had developed faults since the system was made operative.
The telemetry system of IRSA was installed at an estimated cost of Rs320 million a year ago to monitor the inflow and outflow at all dams and barrages through an automatic electric system in order to remove apprehensions of the provinces over water distribution.
