The average price of Bangladesh teas rose nearly 2.0 percent to 78.45 taka ($1.23) per kg on higher demand at the weekly auction on Tuesday, brokers said. "Some 1.03 million kg were sold at an average price of 78.45 taka per kg, up 1.45 taka from the last sale. The withdrawal percentage was 5.99," an auctioneer said. Buyers from the Commonwealth of Independent States, Pakistan and Bangladesh participated in the auction. "There was again a strong demand this week especially for the better liquoring types which appreciated quite considerably," said a market report by National Brokers Limited (NBL), the country's largest tea broking firm.
Different grades were sold between 62 taka and 120 taka per kg.
The next weekly auction will be held on May 31, with an expected offering of 740,000 kg.
