The Pakistani shoes 'Khussa', especially made in Lahore and Multan, are getting popular in South Korea. Faiz Ahmad, who owns Asia Accessories in Seoul, says that the shoes of his country are getting popular by the day. "The beautiful designs please the eye and will compliment any outfit but they are also very practical because they are comfortable. They cover little skin so it is also good to wear in hot summer weather, he says. All the shoes lined up in the Daehyun-dong shop near Ewha Women University have been brought over from the Pakistani cities of Lahore and Multan, where the tradition of khussa-making is still being passed down generation from generation.
Khussas are what these handcrafted moldings of exquisitely embroidered, beaded and sequined leather. A modern take of royal Mogul shoes, khussas are still worn by the upper and middle classes on special occasions and come in an array of colours. They are offered in largely two styles, skimmers and mules.
The leather to some khussas, dressed in silk are decorated with intricate bead designs and metallic embroidery. Flats with velvet wrapped uppers and heels boast a distinct look with stylish punch cut-out detailing.
