It was earlier announced that the 17-member Pakistan contingent will include seven athletes and 10 officials will represent the country in Olympics game 2016, but now Minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination Riaz Hussain Pirzada during the National Assembly session on Wednesday told that fourteen members of Pakistan’s contingent will participate in Olympics Games to be held in Rio de Janeiro.
The country’s sport is lacking behind, when it comes to athletics, and even more about the lack of government interest in promoting and nurturing the country’s sporting talent. A nation that was once proud on producing the world’s best hockey talent hasn’t even qualified for the event for the first time since its maiden appearance in 1948 London Games.
According to APP, Riaz Hussain Pirzada said the contingent will include seven athletes, four coaches and three officials. He said three officials will be sponsored by the International Olympics Association; no extra burden is being put on the national exchequer as was reported by some newspapers.
The Pakistani athletes to represent the country in the Olympics include swimmers Lianna Swan and Haris Bandey, shooters Ghulam Mustafa and Minahal Sohail and two sprinters.
