imageISLAMABAD: The National Assembly on Tuesday approved 11 demands of grant worth Rs 98,337,578,000 for Interior and Narcotics divisions for the fiscal year 2016-17.

The demands of grant were presented to the House by Finance Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar. All the 393 cut motion presented by the opposition members were rejected bty the House.

The House approved Rs 708,853,000 for Interior Division, Rs 7,118,226,000 for Islamabad, Rs 2,014,507,000 for Passport Organization and Rs 43,257,722,000 Civil Armed Forces.

The House also approved Rs 7,947,775,000 for Frontier Constabulary, Rs 1,750,731,000 for Pakistan Coast Guards, Rs 18,163,583,000 for Pakistan Rangers and Rs 3,346,972,000 for other expenditure of Interior Division.

It also approved Rs 2,326,325,000 for Narcotics Control Division, Rs 11,484,459,000 for development expenditure of Interior Division and Rs 218,425,000 for development expenditure of Narcotics Control Division.

Winding up debate, Minister of State for Interior Balighur Rehman said the government policies were bearing fruit as considerable decreased had been witnessed in bomb blasts, incidents of target killings and kidnappings for ransom.

He said the government devised the national internal security policy for the first time under which National Action Plan and Zarb-e-Azab were launched to purge the country of terrorists, and restore law and order situation.

He said National Counter-Terrorism Authority (NACTA) was fully functional, and the Prime Minister and the Interior Minister were personally monitoring NAP.

The minister said for the first time all unverified SIMs were re-verified through biometric system to control sabotaging activities. He said under the counter-terrorism policy, hate speeches were curtailed, besides stopping misuse of loudspeakers.

Baligh-ur-Rehman saidt special force was also raised in the provinces to effectively counter terrorism across the country. Regarding the Karachi operation, the minister said that crime rate had significantly dropped in the mega city after the operation.

He said 80 per cent Madaris (religious semenaries) had been registered in Sindh, 75 per cent in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 60 per cent in Balochistan and 100 per cent in Punjab and Islamabad Capital Territory.

He said visible reduction was witnessed in incidents of dacoity and car thefts after operationalization of Islamabad Safe City Project.

The minister said all the institutions, including National Database Registration Authority, Passport Office and Federal Investigation Agency were doing well and recruitments were being made purely on merit.
