The Pakistan-American Liaison Centre (PALC) has registered a Political Action Committee (PAC) with the Federal Election Commission here to support and endorse public officials, PALC sources said.
The Committee established by PALC will be known as PALC PAC.
Based at Capitol Hill, Washington, DC, Pakistani American Liaison Centre is a community-oriented group dedicated to public education and organising the community.
The idea to form the group was conceived and later on implemented by a group of over a hundred Pakistani Americans gathered in Washington from around the country on February 28 this year.
Six different committees, formed at the end of February 28 meeting, deliberated for over two months before giving the group a legal structure.
The group's Board of Directors, constituted through open invitation, held its first meeting on May 16 in Washington.
The PALC board appointed Faiz Rehman, a fellow Board member, as Executive Director of the group.
The group later met with the visiting Foreign Minister, Khursheed Mahmood Kasuri, at a dinner hosted by Ambassador Ashraf Jehangir Qazi.
"PALC PAC will provide a national platform to Pakistani Americans around the country who donate small amounts to various political campaigns without any significant effect on policies and legislation," said Faiz, the group's Executive Director.
"We urge Pakistani Americans to make their financial contributions to national campaigns through PAL-C PAC. We will make sure the impact of their contributions is profound and noticeable," he added.
PAL-C's Capitol Hill office, located at the Congressional House Building, 306 Massachusetts Avenue, NE, will work with members of Congress on issues related to the Pakistani American community and Pakistan.
PAL-C PAC will support and endorse candidates for US Congress and other public offices based on their positions vis-à-vis the community and Pakistan.
PAL-C promotes political activism within the Pak-American community and relationships between Pakistan and the United States.
PAL-C's goals also include educating Pakistani-Americans, specially the younger generation, in legislative affairs and public policy by creating a support network and encouraging them to diversify their interests and adopt careers in politics, journalism, and law.
