The senior gynaecologists have observed that about 35 percent of barren women could become mothers through test-tube method, at a workshop on 'Management Infertility' organised by Department of Gynae and Obstetric at Liaquat National Hospital (LNH) here on Friday.
Dr Shaheen Zafar, Head of Gynae Department of LNH, said the children were being born through test tube in Islamic countries as well. This process was also being practised in four hospitals of the country, she added.
"Delivery of child is quite normal through test tube and it is permitted in Islam as well," she said adding that experts on this method were few in Pakistan as there was no training facility for local doctors in this field of medicine.
Dr Khusro Sultana, Senior Consultant Gynae at LNH, said that about 10 to 15 percent of women in the world are barren. She informed those present that only women are not suffering from this genetic disease, but men also have this problem.
"New couples suffer from tension due to being impotent or barren," she said adding "If couple did not have child in one year then they should contact doctors."
Dr Farah Saeed, Senior Registrar Gynae at LNH informed the gathering that the sexual problems of impotent couples were very important and had psychiatric aspect, but these people were being neglected in the society.
She emphasised that gynaecologists should have workshops/ seminars on such issues to identify the actual problems.
"Gynaecologist can solve 80 to 90 percent of problems and in 10 percent of cases, it is needed to contact the specialists," she added.
