Federal Minister for Water and Power Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao has said that Munda Dam will enable the province to utilise 70 percent of its water for the uplift of the people.
He claimed that with the completion of Munda Dam project the misuse of NWFP's water share, which the province had acquired through Water Apportionment Accord, would be minimised to a great extent.
He expressed these views while addressing a big gathering at Shabqadar grid station on Sunday.
On this occasion, he inaugurated the installation of 20-26 KV transformer at 132 KV grid station which would bring stability to the power transmission and distribution system in the area.
MPA Sikandar Hayat Khan Sherpao, former MNA Hamid Khan and former MPA Javed Iqbal were also present on the occasion.
The Minister said that due to non-availability of mechanism the proper utilisation of water was not possible. But now, he said, Munda Dam would lay the foundation for the provision of an efficient system to remove the impediment in its utilisation.
He said that efforts were being made to utilise the remaining 30 percent water in an efficient manner for the greater advantage of the masses. He lashed out at certain elements who had been using the issue of provincial rights as political gimmick, saying that these people were not sincere to the cause of the province.
Brushing aside the criticism of opponents, the Minister hinted that the launching of Munda Dam was part and parcel of the issue of provincial rights and its people would get due benefits on its completion.
Since, he observed, these people are making only lip-service, they cannot comprehend the development and uplift as path towards the address of the core issue of provincial rights.
He added that the difference "between our politics and others" was that the former believe in practical work while the latter rely on paper work.
"NWFP will annually receive Rs 360 million as royalty from Munda Dam," he informed the participants of the gathering.
The Dam would meet the electricity needs of the province, he said, and added that this vital project would not only address the sensitive problem of unemployment but would also resolve the irrigation hardships to the utmost satisfaction of the people of Doaba and Shabqadar.
Sherpao said that the Munda Dam was an important project after the formation of Gagyani Platoon in Frontier Constabulary as the latter had not only addressed the unemployment issues to some extent but the same had also provided identity to the tribe in the upper echelons of government.
He assured the people that Sui gas would soon be supplied to Doaba, Shulgara and Shabqadar areas.
He also announced that Ghalanai grid station would shortly be commissioned and the re-conducting of faulty wires at Adezai grid station would be completed at the earliest.
Chief Engineer Pesco Samarqand Khan, while enumerating the development works of Wapda, lauded the efforts of the Federal Minister for the welfare of the people.
