Pakistan Overseas Employment Promoter Association (POEPA) urged the government to establish Overseas Employment Promotion Bureau (OEPB) which will help in exploring new labour markets for absorption of Pakistani manpower abroad.
These demands were placed by a delegation of POEPA in their recent meeting with Secretary Labour, Manpower and Overseas Pakistanis Muhammad Hamayun Farshoori.
Chairman POEPA Raja Amir-ur-Rehman informed the Labour Secretary that the late Minister for Labour, Mian Abdul Sattar Laleka had taken the decision of setting up OEPB like Export Promotion Bureau to earn valuable foreign exchange and check increasing rate of unemployment in the country.
A delegation of Overseas Employment Promoters would be sent under the patronage of Ministry of Labour, for the purpose of enhancing manpower export, he added.
Delegation members pointed out that Gulf Corporation Council (GCC) has appointed few medical centres which are charging Rs 1950/- per emigrant.
They told the secretary that the exorbitant charges by these centres is an extra financial burden on the poor workers and sought that they should be allowed to get their medical check-up from any of the GCC approved medical centre.
In the meeting, issue of manpower export to Malaysia was also discussed and Secretary Labour assured the delegation that proper steps will be taken on the issues pointed out by POEPA and hoped to work collectively for the betterment of country in future.
