The mutton sale at the price of Rs 200 to 220 per kg continues unabatedly in the city, mockering vociferous claims of City District Government (CDG) to obligate butchers to sell the mutton at its stipulated price Rs 150 per kg.
The upside trend in mutton sale is being observed for the last one year particularly after its alleged smuggling to Afghanistan.
Ultimately the CDG fixed the price viewing that the mutton buying was going out of budget of a common man.
Raiding teams were constituted to counter the morbid phenomenon and some transgressor butchers were booked and apprehended.
Anyhow, nevertheless all of measures, the mutton price hike kept intact and has been continuing with impunity.
The people stated while talking to PPI that the case must be registered against the responsible persons under Food Stuff Act, 1956 with awarding them exemplary punishment.
They said that the mutton had gone up to the extent of "oppression" on the poor as it was becoming outside his financial capacity to purchase mutton or beef or even chicken meat.
