Lahore District Nazim Amer Mahmood has directed Wasa and Revenue officials to take steps for preventing the incidents of throwing solid waste and other types of wreckage into 83 storm water channels of the city and also take stern legal action against those involved in this practice.
He said this while chairing a meeting on Tuesday to review Wasa preparations for early drainage of rain water, especially from the low-lying areas of the city.
The Nazim directed for demolishing encroachments which have been constructed over central drain, used for drainage in Laxmi Chowk and adjacent areas, besides removing other hurdles in smooth flow of rain water.
Wasa has made necessary arrangements for providing covers of manholes, he said.
He stated that seven new tube-wells would be inaugurated after getting electric connection for energising them during this month. Wasa has already installed eight new tube-wells in the city and another 13 tube-wells would be made operational during the current fiscal year, he added.
