NAB Sindh has arrested accused Muhammad Akhtar Qureshi, a senior clerk in the Accounts Department of Karachi Port Trust (KPT) on charges of misappropriation through fraud of Rs 5.5 million from "Approaching Fee" which is levied by KPT for use of KPT waters by "Country Crafts" (small vessels/launches).
According to NAB, the accused was posted as dealing clerk in Cash and Assessment Branch of KPT's Accounts Department from August 03, 1999 to January 05, 2002.
His duty was to collect cash on the basis of prescribed assessed amount of KPT from parties concerned, but after collecting cash he deposited lesser amount in the bank account.
Later, he started forging the payment challans and handed over the same to concerned parties thus causing loss of millions of rupees to KPT.
