Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad on Monday inaugurated three-day anti-polio drive in the province by administering polio drops to children at Civil Hospital, Karachi.
The governor said that the drive against polio would be successful in the province its eradication by the end of this year would be achieved by all means.
He said that for achieving the target all the civil society, elected representatives of the people, especially representatives of the local bodies would have to come forward to making the drive successful.
He said that a comparison of performance record of previous years was not very encouraging and it seemed necessary to concentrate on the efforts this time to make a difference.
The governor said that in addition to the drive against polio, measures have been taken to fight against other disabling diseases that afflict children and could be checked at initial stages.
He said that he was appreciative of the contribution which philanthropists had been making from time to time, and added that their efforts and contributions should continue for the cause of the poor.
Japanese consul-general and the vice-chancellor of Dow Medical University also spoke on this occasion.
A large number of people, including provincial health minister Naeem Ishtiaq, V-C Dow Medical College Professor Masood Hameed, DG Health Haroon Bux, Secretary health Ashiq Memon and consul-general of Japan also attended the programme.
