Chicago Board of Trade rough rice futures closed higher on Friday on commercial and late fund buying, traders said.
"There was some commercial buying interest, but it wasn't aggressive," one CBOT rice broker said.
"It combined with light speculative buying and local short-covering, and then there was late fund-type buying on the closing bell."
CBOT rough rice futures ended up 13 cents to 25 cents per cwt, with May up 23 cents at $10.03, July up 25 cents at $10.24, and November up 16 cents at $8.88.
CBOT rough rice estimated volume on Friday was 1,342 contracts, compared with Thursday's volume of 574 lots. Options trade totalled 16 lots.
