Speaker National Assembly Chaudhry Amir Hussain said on Friday that the National Security Council (NSC) was consultative and not a supra-Parliament body.
"It is a consultative and not a supra-Parliament body," he told APP before his departure to Mexico to attend 148 member Inter-Parliaments Union's (IPU) meeting, beginning from April 18 to 23.
He is heading a 5-member parliamentary delegation, comprising four MNAs and one Senator. The purpose of IPU is to enable Parliaments of the world to exchange views, experiences and strengthen their relations to learn from one another.
Chaudhry Amir Hussain arrived here on Thursday while en route to Mexico.
He was received at the Heathrow airport by head of the Chancery of Pakistan's High Commission London Masood Raja and President of Pakistan Welfare Association Chaudhry Jamil Tabassum and others.
Answering a question on NSC, he said, after incorporation of the amendment, moved by MQM in NSC Bill, it had been made a consultative body.
Now it could discuss any crisis situation or the issues of national importance and send its recommendations over it, either to the National Assembly or the Senate.
"The decision is going to be taken by the Parliament," he said. Hence those who have been opposed to the formation of NSC should have no objections on it now, he added.
Questioned on the constitution of the Standing Committees of the House, he said, 23 Committees, including the Public Accounts Committee, had been set up which would greatly, improve the performance of the National Assembly.
It is in the Standing Committees where the elected representatives can have lengthy discussion on various issues before a certain bill is referred to the House, he said.
