Shipping lines will increase from April 1 the fuel recovery surcharge for all cargo destined for Canada.
The new rates of fuel surcharge will be 175 dollars for 20-foot container, 230 dollars for a 40-foot, 260 dollars for a 40-foot Hi-cube container and 290 dollars for a 45-foot box.
A notice issued to the trade by the American President Line (APL) has said that due to recent increase in the fuel prices, the fuel recovery surcharge for cargo to and from Canada has been increased. The new rates will come into force from April 1.
The increase would apply to all cargoes, moving on tariff or services contract basis, said the APL.
The fuel surcharge hike would adversely affect textile quota exports to Canada.
Through another notice to the trade, the APL announced a general rate increase (GRI) for all cargoes moving between Pakistan and South American countries with effect from April 15.
The freight increase will be 150 dollars for a 20-foot container; and 300 dollars for a 40-foot container.
The countries for which the freight increase would apply include Chile, Peru, Ecuador and Columbia.
The notice informed the trade that a new GRI would be implemented from April 15. Accordingly, all shipments, moving out of Pakistan to the South American continent, would be subject to new freight rates.
