Pakistan Medical Association (PMA), Karachi, has hailed the appointment of a full-fledged health minister for Sindh.
PMA-Karachi General Secretary Dr S.M. Qaiser Sajjad, in a press statement here on Tuesday, hoped that Sindh Health Minister Naeem Ishtiaq would adopt a transparent approach with regard to appointments and transfers of the health department officials as well as staffers.
Expecting that the minister would also ensure merit as the criterion and seniority of professionals is extended due consideration, the PMA office-bearer maintained that the morale of all those associated with Sindh health department is needed to be raised.
"The PMA believes that every appointment, posting and transfer must be merit based", said Dr Qaiser Sajjad.
He in this context also appealed to the provincial health minister to review the recent appointments for the posts of DG-Health, EDO-Karachi and directors from varied projects being run in Sindh.
"Competent professionals need to be assigned above mentioned responsibilities in the larger interest of the masses," the PMA general secretary said.
He said the PMA also believes that all Basic Health Units, Rural Health Centres, Taluka Headquarters and District Hospitals must work accordingly, and health care-providers are appointed against each and every post available at these places.
Dr Qaiser also drew the health minister's attention towards official admission policy for medical colleges, stressing that here too merit must be the sole criterion. While those involved in admission scam and identified to be indulged in corruption are brought to task.
It was reiterated that PMA strongly believes in honesty, merit and integrity and would extend support to the Sindh health minister in his any effort against corruption in institutions functioning under the provincial health department.
