After enthralling thousands of school children of Lahore at the World Heritage site of the Shahi Qila, Lahore, historical theatre on Chapters from Mughal History will be performed at 9:30 am on February 20, 2004 at the PSO House Podium, Clifton Road here.
The performance at the Lahore Fort was part of a three-day Karavan MeraVirsa HeritageFest, held in collaboration with PSO, Unesco and Culture and Youth Affairs Ministry, to engage young people in developing identification and pride with their heritage through mural painting and historical theatre.
After holding its celebrated Karavan Heritage Streetfests and Karavan SeaKarnival Parade since 2001, the Lahore HeritageFest was the first heritage activity of Karavan Pakistan outside Karachi.
The PSO Karavan Mera Pakistan events are designed to inculcate a sense of responsibility regarding rule of law, the environment, human rights, culture and heritage among school children.
The fifth event in the series is devoted to celebration of national heritage in which The Hampton School, Happy Home School, Woodland School, Shahwilayat Public School, S.M. Aga Khan School and Beaconhouse School system will trace the history of the golden period of the Mughal Empire.
The theatrical performances bring to life the eras of Mughal emperors, Babur, Humayun, Akbar, Jahangir, Shah Jahan and Aurangzeb.
The Mughal theatre is the beginning of a series of theatre productions, which are being planned by the Karavan Pakistan team for enlivening other World Heritage Sites of Pakistan to make the general public aware of the world famous historical treasures that Pakistan possesses.
Ms Samina Peerzada, famous TV and film actor, film producer and director, will be the chief guest on the occasion.
She is currently engaged in setting up film studios in the city to shift the focus of film-making from Lahore to Karachi.-PR
