The exhibition of contemporary metal jewellery and glass sculptures by Shakil Ismail will be held at Nomad Art Gallery here on February 12.
Renowned for his superior award winning calligraphic works in traditional metal form, Shakil Ismail has found expression in contemporary jewellery as an art form.
The Karachi-based artist is a deft craftsman and has gained a reputation for his contemporary jewellery. Exciting designs in abstract and geometric shapes silver coiled Taweez pieces and semi-precious stones set in gold and silver plating though have a modern touch, yet wavers back, to his roots.
Quranic verses adorn his jewellery and form an integral part of his coloured glass sculpted pieces.
Through the techniques of etching, burnishing and casting, he dextrously moulds his glasswork with passion, devotion and a spiritual zeal.
Winner of many awards, Shakil is a graduate of Central Institute of Art and Craft, Karachi.
He has been exhibiting since mid 1980's and had innumerable solo and group exhibitions at home and abroad.
