The 4th Youth Theatre Festival being organised by Rafi Peer Theatre Workshop in collaboration with Shell Pakistan started here on Friday.
In a simple ceremony held here at Alhamra Cultural Complex near Qaddafi Stadium, Mst Asmat Peerzada, mother of Usman Peerzada formally inaugurated the festival by cutting a ribbon.
A large number of art lovers were present.
Talking to newsmen, Tasneem Peerzada, a spokesperson of Rafi Peer Theatre Workshop, said that this festival has been organised for promoting the talent of young artists.
She said that a large number of students of various schools and colleges besides young directors who deal in private productions are participating in this festival.
Students of National College of Arts and FC College presented their performances on the first day of the festival.
She said that this festival would provide an opportunity to the youth to channel their creativity in a positive direction. For the first time in the history of the festival, it will be a competition with a jury of three prominent theatre members judging over 1,000 performers.
She said that this youth theatre festival would continue till January 26.
