Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali has reiterated the government's commitment to uphold freedom of expression in the country, as it constitutes one of the fundamental rights of the people.
He was talking to Federal Information and Broadcasting Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, who called on him at the Prime Minister House on Friday evening.
He said that the freedom currently being enjoyed by the print and electronic media was unprecedented, adding that the government had always welcomed constructive criticism offered by the media.
The prime minister also appreciated the positive role, which had been played by the media to make the recent Saarc Summit a success.
The two leaders also exchanged views on political matters and expressed their satisfaction over smooth passage of the 17th Constitutional Amendment by the Parliament.
They hoped that this development would end the yearlong political strife and polarisation.
