The Central Board of Revenue (CBR) has paid about Rs 6 billion as duty drawback to exporters during July-December (2003-04) whereas claims of less than Rs 1 billion remain pending.
Official sources told Business Recorder here on Monday that the Collectorate of Customs, Karachi (Exports), has paid the highest amount of Rs 3.6 billion as duty drawback while claims of Rs 1,093 million are still lying with the department.
Collectorate of Customs, Sialkot, paid Rs 843 million; Faisalabad, Rs 728 million; Lahore, Rs 295 million; Peshawar, Rs 289 million; Multan, Rs 58 million; Hyderabad, Rs 56 million and Collectorate of Customs, Quetta paid Rs 6 million as duty drawback whereas claims of Rs 33 million are still lying with the department.
Sources said that CBR paid nearly Rs 6 billion as duty drawback despite rationalisation/ reduction in BBD rates for certain sectors earlier enjoying extraordinary high rates.
Input Output Coefficient Organisation (IOCO), Karachi, has played an important role in the rationalisation of DDB regime, sources added.
