Leader of the opposition, AJK, Legislative Assembly Barrister Sultan Mehmood Chaudhry here on Saturday handed over a memorandum to the Indian High Commission condemning the ongoing atrocities in occupied Kashmir and called for lifting of all draconian laws.
Kashmiris leaders led by Sultan Mehmood Chaudhry walked to the Indian High Commission to register their protest.
According to the memorandum, they demanded release of all the detainees from jails, torture cells, interrogation centers, restoration of all fundamental freedoms including right to life and travel, immediate stop to genocide, state terrorism and human right violations, creating conditions for an intra dialogue between Kashmiri leaders from both sides of Cease Fire Line and withdrawal of troops from occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
"We want to make it known on this day that neither brute force nor political fraud can deter the people of Jammu and Kashmir from their resistance against Indian occupation," the memorandum added.
The memorandum said that UN along with other member states associated with this august body should help the people of Jammu and Kashmir to redeem their right to self-determination as envisaged in UN resolutions.
Addressing the protest rally Sultan said, "Kashmir is not a territorial dispute but an issue of the future of Kashmiris."
He said Kashmiris are struggling for their right to self determination in accordance with UN resolutions.
People of Kashmir are struggling for the last 56 years and their victory is not far away now, he added.
Sultan said Kashmiris ongoing movement in Indian held Kashmir is an indigenous struggle and more than 80,000 graves of Kashmiris is a clear proof of it.
Chaudhry Latif Akbar, General Secretary, PPP, AJK said it is appreciable how the Kashmiris are fighting against the brutality of 700,000 Indian soldiers in Indian held Kashmir.
He said, "we welcome the dialogue on Kashmir to resolve the decades old dispute according to the wishes of Kashmiris."
He said the biggest event of the "Self Determination Week" will be a public meeting at Liaquat Bagh, Rawalpindi on January 11.
