LISBON: Portugal's unemployment rate was unchanged at 12.0 percent in April but down from 12.9 percent a year earlier, data from the National Statistics Institute (INE) showed on Monday.
The jobless rate, which peaked in early 2013 at over 17 percent, has been declining as economic growth accelerated last year from 2014 levels when recovery began after a three-year recession.
According to the monthly unemployment data introduced by INE last year, the youth unemployment rate of those aged 15 to 24 fell to 29.9 percent in April from 31.1 percent in March.
The total number of unemployed fell to 609,800 in April from 612,300 in March, while the work force remained practically unchanged at 4.5 million, INE said.
