ISLAMABAD: Senate Standing Committee on Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Department in its meeting held here on Thursday discussed in detail the working of offices of Protectorate of Emigrants in different cities of the country and the ways to make these more viable for safe emigration of workforce in the other countries.
Chaired by Senator Baz Muhammad Khan, the committee also discussed working, functions and performance of Bureau of Emigration and Overseas Employment (BEOE).
Director General, BEOE Rana Matloob Ahmad briefed the committee members about the performance of the bureau and suggested to form a parliamentary forum on migration to make strategies to bring further improvement in the working of all the relevant institution.
He suggested forming a commission under the supervision of Prime Minister to decide appointments of high level posts on merit.
Responding to these suggestions, Senator Lt. Gen (r) Abdul Qayyum directed the DG to present these recommendations in the form of a draft.
Senator Abdul Qayyum along with other members of the committee also paid tribute to the services of Abdul Qayyum who will be retired from his services on May 6.
Secretary Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development, Khizer Hayat Khan also briefed the committee about the recent initiatives taken by the ministry.
He said recently Migrant Resource Center (MRC) was inaugurated and made functional to facilitate the migrants through providing them guidance about the safe migration.
He said the ministry would send one million workers to other countries this year and likely to achieve the target of 20 billion foreign remittances.
Senator Haji Saif Ullah Khan Bangash, other senators and officials of Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development also attended the meeting.
