imagePESHAWAR: Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Iqbal Zafar Jhagra on Monday said the interests and rights of tribal people would be protected under FATA reforms, that would be finalized as per the aspiration of tribal people and traditions.

Addressing a meeting of consultative meeting with tribal elders from Frontier Regions and public representatives from FATA on reforms in tribal regions, he said the government is committed to introduce such reforms in FATA that could translate the aspiration of tribal people besides strengthening ties between the state and people.

He said comprehensive reforms are being proposed for speedy justice, improved administrative system, development and construction in FATA to improve the living standard of the common man.

He said the FATA Reforms committee would finalize its report in the light of the recommendations and proposals of tribal people and their representatives and submit it to the Prime Minister for final nod.

He said the government has empowered tribal people to decide their future themselves, adding the sacrifices and support of tribal people for the country and the nation cannot be overlooked and the time has come to pay them back.

The Governor said that due to sacrifices of the tribal people the peace has restored across the country as well as in the region. The reforms are meant to ensure lasting peace, development and revival of business activities in FATA to bring the tribal people into mainstream, he added.

The meeting was chaired by Chairman of the Committee Sirtaj Aziz, members Zahid Hamid, Arbab Shahzad, Additional Chief Secretary FATA Muhammad Aslam and high officials from FRs Peshawar, Bannu, DI Khan, Kohat, Tank and Lakki.
