At least 19 passengers were killed on Wednesday due to a collision between a passenger bus and a truck on Jhang road near Faisalabad, local media reported.
According to sources, a passenger bus enroute Layyah from Faisalabad collided with a truck on Jhang road near the town of Theekri Wala.
Nineteen passengers including four members of the same family died in the traffic accident.
The deceased family members include a mother and her three children.
According to rescue sources, 10 passengers are critically injured in the accident and have been shifted immediately to a nearby hospital for medical aid.
Hospital administration said that the injured are in critical condition.
The accident took place due to “speeding and reckless driving”, senior police official Afzaal Ahmed Khosa told AFP.
Eye witnesses also reported that high speeding was the cause of the collision.
Dr Naeem Hashmi, who works at the Allied Hospital in nearby Faisalabad city, said 15 injured people were being treated in the emergency department. Two of them were in a serious condition, AFP reported.
Pakistan has an appalling road safety record due to poor roads, badly maintained vehicles and reckless driving.
More than 4,600 people were killed in road traffic accidents in 2013, the last year the government released official data.
