imageISLAMABAD: During the first nine months of current fiscal year (2015-16), Securities Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) registered 4,355 new companies.

"As compared to the corresponding period last year, it represents a growth of 21 percent," a statement issued by the Commission here said.

The SECP statement further said that it is a clear sign of confidence by investors and a growing trend in company registration.

It added that around 91 percent of companies have been registered as private limited companies, while around 6 percent were registered as single-member companies and 3 percent of the companies were registered as public unlisted, non-profit associations and foreign companies.

The Commission said that trading sector took the lead with the incorporation of 75 companies followed by services with 74, information technology with 64, construction with 50, tourism with 36, fuel and energy with 26, food and beverages with 24, chemical with 20, corporate agricultural farming with 19, healthcare and engineering with 17 each, power generation and real estate development 16 each, communication with 15, textile and education with 13 each, broadcast and telecasting with 12, paper and board with 11, cables and electric goods with 10 and 76 companies were registered in other sectors.

Moreover, five foreign companies were also registered by the CROs in Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad. Foreign investment has been reported in 38 new companies.

These companies have foreign investors from, China, UK, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Kuwait, Turkey, Czech Republic, Syria, South Africa, Germany, Afghanistan, Singapore, Denmark and other countries.

These companies are from auto and allied, chemical, construction, services, engineering, healthcare, trading, information technology, power generation, lodging, steel and allied, textile and miscellaneous sector.

During the month, the highest numbers of companies, i.e. 204, were registered at the Company Registration Office (CRO) in Islamabad, followed by 165 and 139 companies registered at the CROs in Lahore and Karachi respectively.

The CROs in Faisalabad, Quetta Multan, Peshawar and Sukkur registered 12, 7, 39, 35 and 3 companies respectively.
