ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Thursday restored the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assembly membership of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's (PTI) Faisal Zaman after suspending the order of Election Commission of Pakistan for re-election in the Pk-52 constituency.
The three-member bench of the apex court, headed by Justice Mian Saqib Nisar, after admitting the appeal filed by Faisal Zaman, suspended the ECP's order and restored his provincial assembly membership.
During proceedings of the case, the court was informed that Faisal Zaman obtained his educational degree from Nigeria but the ECP termed the degree fake and disqualified him from assembly membership.
Justice Saqib NIsar remarked that ECP has no authority to issue legal verdict on the verification of degrees as it was the mandate of Election Tribunal according to Article 225.
The court accepted Faisal Zaman's application for regular hearing and suspended ECP decision.
