Pakistan to import 1000MW electricity from Iran

electricity-powerISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Iran in a meeting between Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi and Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani in Islamabad on Thursday, have agreed to expedite work on the gas pipeline project.

The two sides also agreed on taking urgent steps for import of one thousand megawatt of electricity from Iran. They also discussed regional situation and matters of bilateral interest.

They also agreed to take necessary measures including the removal of trade barriers for increasing the volume of trade between the two friendly countries.

It was further decided to hold meetings of the joint ministerial commission on regular basis for effective implementation of decisions taken at various levels between the two countries.

They agreed for setting up an investment fund to encourage private sector to undertake investment in their respective countries.
