WASHINGTON: The White House said Thursday it was too early to tell why a Russian plane crashed over Egypt, killing all 224 people on board, but said terrorism could not be ruled out.
"At this point, we have not made our own determination about what exactly led to this tragic incident," spokesman Josh Earnest said.
"At the same time, we can't rule anything out, including the possibility of terrorist involvement."
Flight KGL9268 crashed shortly after taking off from the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh, killing all on board and raising suspicions it was brought down by a bomb.
Earnest said the US government was reviewing whether additional security steps would be needed in response to the incident, as several European governments announced the suspension of flights to the Sinai peninsula and other measures.
