imageKARACHI: World Boxing Council (WBC) Welterweight Champion Amir Khan wished on Wednesday that a World Boxing Champion should emerge on the scene from Lyari.

He made these remarks during his visit to Ustad Satoo Boxing Stadium where he came to watch Summer Boxing Training Camp in progress for the juniors.

Amir Khan said Lyari was rich in sporting and boxing talent and he wanted to establish an academy there and serve the fist-fighting

Lyari is known for producing great pugilists like 1988 Seoul Olympics bronze medalist, Hussain Shah, Asian Games Champion Meherullah and a large number of international medalists.

During his short visit at the venue, Amir Khan passed on the tips to the youngsters attending the camp. He also watched a couple of exhibition fights.

Earlier on arrival at the stadium, Amir Khan was accorded a tumultuous welcome with traditional Balochi dances on unique beat of drums. He was also presented Sindhi Ajrak and Cap by the officials.

Earlier Amir Khan attended a new perfume launch jointly by him, cricket icon Wasim Akram and Junaid Jamshed.

Speaking on the occasion, he said he was overwhelmed with the love and affection given to him by the people of Pakistan.

He said Pakistan is full of sports talent and if boxing gymnasium are established here like cricket grounds, the country can make great progress.
