LONDON: European stock markets fell at the start of trading on Monday but losses were less sharp compared with last week when global equities plunged on fears of a fresh worldwide recession.
London's FTSE 100 index of leading shares dropped 0.82 percent to 4,999.63 points, Frankfurt's DAX 30 index shed 1.28 percent to 5,412.75 points and in Paris the CAC 40 lost 0.85 percent to 2,991.20. Madrid declined 0.71 percent and Milan fell 0.94 percent.
