imageLAHORE: Barrister Asjad Saeed, counsel for National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, has told election tribunal that allegations levelled against Sardar Ayaz Sadiq and polling staff were baseless.

The tribunal comprising Justice (retd) Kazim Ali Malik was hearing the election petition filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e- Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran khan challenging election of National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq from NA-122 Lahore Constituency.

In his three-hour long arguments on Thursday, Sardar Ayaz's counsel denied allegations levelled on Sardar Ayaz Sadiq and polling staff.

He said no evidence was found against returning officer which showed that he manipulated election result or involved in any irregularity." The PTI allegations were not based on record", he added.

He said intentionally, the PTI did not produced returning officer and presiding officers as witnesses in the case. "If their evidence was recorded then it would have been against Imran",he added.

The tribunal after hearing arguments at length adjourned the matter till July 4 and directed Ayaz Sadiq' counsel to continue his arguments on the next hearing.

Later, talking to the media, Barrister Asjad Saeed said baseless allegations were levelled and it was a reason that record have to be examined again and again. "After reviewing the record, it was found that allegations were not a part of record", he added.

To a question, he expressed his satisfaction on case proceedings and said petitioner was given full opportunity. "But they failed to bring a single evidence against Sardar Ayaz Sadiq", he added.
