LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket Board has cleared chief selector, Moin Khan from alleged allegations of gambling in Brisbane, Australia ahead of World Cup match.
"PCB has accepted the plea of Moin who in his written statement stated that he along with his wife went to a restaurant located inside a Casino for dining and nor he or his wife did gambling there," said Chairman, PCB, Shaharyar Khan while talking to media here on Tuesday after a half an hour meeting with the Chief selector.
He said Moin stuck to his earlier statement which he had already submitted to the PCB after his visit to the Casino and insisted his only aim to go there was to dine not gambling and after doing so he returned to team's hotel.
"In his statement Moin accepted that going to Casino was a mistakes for which he apologized to the entire nation and the PCB, said the Chairman PCB adding, "We conducted an inquiry to look into the alleged allegations of gambling which also endorsed Moin's stance of just dinning there and nothing else".
He said in Australia and New Zealand there are a lot of Casinos and Moin did not violate the discipline by eating in one of the restaurant of a Casino.
"What was objectionable was going to Casino and Moin has tendered apology on this act and thus the issue stand closed," he added.
Chairman PCB said Moin will not go back to Australia to remain with the team but he would continue performing the duty of Chief Selector.
He disclosed that he would be visiting India from March 5 to take up the issue of revival of Pak-India cricket series on bilateral basis.
"We have already signed a MOU with the Indian Board to play six series with India in next 8 years and now the Indian Board needs the permission of its Government for the implementation of the MOU," said Shaharyar Khan.
"I would also be requesting our Foreign Office to play its due role in the resumption of Pak-India ties on regular basis," he maintained.
To a question, he said a significant progress has been made as far as the resumption of international cricket was concerned in Pakistan.
"Kenya and Afghanistan teams have already visited Pakistan and Holland team will be coming to Pakistan next month and PCB is well on the course to resume international cricket at its play grounds," he said adding "Sri Lankan and Bangladesh A teams will also be visiting Pakistan in due course of time". Shahyarkhan said the visit of the Bangladesh national cricket team to Pakistan has not yet been finalized as the Bangladesh team is reluctant to visit Pakistan.
"We are having discussions with the officials of the Bangladesh Cricket Board to resolve this issue and in the present circumstances it is difficult on part of Pakistan team to visit Bangladesh in near efuture".
