SEOUL: South Korea's finance minister said on Monday that consumer price trends raised fears that the economy could suffer deflation and that the government would take appropriate policy measures to manage that risk.
"Regarding the consumer price trends, there are fears of deflation.
The government will make efforts to manage prices at certain (appropriate) levels," Finance Minister Choi Kyung-hwan said while opening a scheduled meeting with business leaders.
He also said an excessive current account surplus would push the won higher and the government would also make effort to keep the surplus from rising.
