Coke Studio season 7 produced by a Pakistani band ‘Strings’ has now come to an end. Coke Studio has been popular throughout the country for its fusion of different Pakistani cultures including sufi, eastern classical, folk, qawwali and bhangra.
The latest season Coke Studio didn’t create much impact on the audience and has garnered mixed response.
According to local media reports, they played it safe; so safe that there were no cross-genre collaborations. Sajjad Ali sung alongside Fariha Pervez, Abbas Ali Khan sang a duet with Humaira Channa and same goes for Rahma Ali and Jimmy Khan. However, the most shocking collaboration was between Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and Abida Parveen, a production which was average at best, when compared to Coke Studio’s own standards and one that ended up not doing justice to any of the two maestros.
However, few high points of this season were Abrar-ul-Haq ‘Pani Ka Bulbula’, Zohaib Hasan ‘Chehra’ and Pakistan’s emerging talent Asrar, Usman Riaz and Jimmy Khan. A notable mention, Sara Haider who made her debut on backing vocals for this season was incredible, she created a perfect sync with Rachel Viccaji.
