Actor James Mcavoy has won the best actor award at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Scotland Awards for ‘Filth’.
‘Filth’ is an adaptation of Irvine Welsh's novel of the same name. The film's story revolves around a corrupt, drug-taking alcoholic cop played by James Mcavoy.
According to media reports, after receiving the prize Mcavoy said, “It is always nice for an actor to get any award as any validation for the work that he does is useful for an actor.” Reportedly, “It's especially nice when that award comes from your own city, your own country and your own people and also the people for whom I made this film as well are a big deal”.
The best actress film award was received by Sophie Kennedy Clark for her performance in ‘Philomena’. Other winners included David Tennant, who took the Actor Television category for his role in ‘The Escape Artist’. Shirley Henderson won the Actress Television award for her role as a grieving mother in Channel 4's Southcliffe, media reported.
The winners of the British Academy Scotland Awards 2014 were unveiled at a red carpet ceremony at Glasgow's ‘Radisson Blu Hotel’.
