imageKARACHI: Karachi is in need of "Vital Installation Security Force, on the pattern of Airport Security Force for foolproof security of all vital installations in the ever expanding city, said Commissioner of Karachi, Shoaib Ahmad Siddiqui.

Chairing a meeting to review measures in place for security of these installations here Wednesday, he said under the current circumstances, with country engaged in an internal war against terrorists, fool proof security has to be ensured all the more for sensitive areas with vital installations.

He said concerned departments and organizations also needed to realize their responsibilities ensuring tightening of internal security with necessary provision to ensure that no encroachments are allowed on or around the premises.

Karachi Commissioner said concerned deputy commissioners can always be approached for any support needed to remove encroachments or any sort of unauthorized developments and constructions close to the premises of these installations.

With specific reference to district East of Karachi, he said with Zulfiqarabad Oil Terminal, Port Qasim Authority, Pakistan Steel, Pakistan International Airline, International Airport, Civil Aviation Authority, Security Printing Press, Bin Qasim, Export Processing Zone etc all located here turns the district all the more important from security point of view.

Commissioner Shoaib Ahmad Siddiqui said the concerned agencies must also ensure construction of watch towers that must also be manned round the clock by efficient and trained guards followed by restrengthening of boundary walls encompassing the installations, arrangements for proper lightening on premises and regular patrolling.

Karachi Commissioner said display of weapons on and around premises of these vital installations must necessarily be prohibited.

He reiterated that no compromise can be made in security of these installations and safety of public.

"Karachi administration under the supervision of Sindh government was committed to provide all required support for outer security of these installations," said the commissioner.

The meeting attended by Kazi Jan Mohammad, Deputy Commissioner of district east, SP - Malir, Chairman, Bin Qasim Association of Trade and Industry, Navaid Shakoor and security heads of vital installations recommended increased patrolling by police and rangers in the district.

Chief Security Officer of CAA on the occasion said all encroachments and unauthorized erection of structure around and close to airport premises has been removed for good.

No less than five entry points previously used have also been closed whereas IGP - Sindh police has also been requested to assist in screening of the airport's "tunnel" area, he said.

Official from Zulfiqarabad Oil Terminal said new constructions, that are but unauthorized, are being witnessed around the premises and support of district administration was needed to demolish these and also ensuring that these may not re-appear in future.

DC - Malir assured to look into the issue reiterating that law would not be allowed to be violated nor security of ZOT would be compromised.
