Coal_TechnologyISLAMABAD: Chairman Pakistan Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (PCSIR), Dr. Shaukat Pervaiz, has said that power outages could be controlled by generating electricity through coal technology within three years.

Talking to the media, he said that Pakistan has the world's largest coal deposits of 186 billion tons. He said coal can be used for generation of energy at cheaper rates.

He said if coal is used for generating energy, diesel, which is another source as fuel, can be obtained at a very low cost.

"Pakistani scientist, engineers and technologists had done successful experiment to make gas, diesel and electricity with coal," he said.

Responding to a question, he said that our coal is qualitative and can be used for creating energy.

Government is serious in this project and is considering providing all type of assistance.

Dr. Shaukat said that gasses like carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide which pollute the environment, could be used in the reactor and converted into diesel.

The chairman also invited the private sector to invest in this project so that continuous electricity could be supplied to people at a reasonable tariff.
